Dear all,
As we announced in January (see below), the Archival and Manuscript Description Committee (AMDECO) recently updated suggested language for MARC 856, subfield 3 for archival and manuscript catalog records linking to Archives at Yale finding aids.
These changes are reflected in the YUL Manuscript Cataloging Guidelines<https://web.library.yale.edu/cataloging/manuscript/8xx#856>. Essentially, we now ask archival and manuscript catalogers to include the following language in 856 subfield 3 for finding aids: View a description and listing of collection contents in the finding aid
In an effort to improve Aeon requesting functionality and user experience, AMDECO plans to retrospectively update all type p, k, d, and f bib records with an 856 field linking to an Archives at Yale finding aid to include the revised language.
We anticipate making these retrospective updates in Voyager the week of April 22.
Please be aware that these changes are going into production that week and that, as of January, all newly-created archival and manuscript catalog records with 856 subfield 3 links to finding aids should include the new text: View a description and listing of collection contents in the finding aid
We’d very much appreciate your sharing this notification regarding these changes with any staff members who catalog archival or manuscript material. Please also plan to update any archival or manuscript cataloging templates accordingly.
With thanks,
Alison Clemens, Chair, Archival and Manuscript Description Committee
