****** Apologies for cross posting *******
MetaLib will be made available to the public on June 6th. We would like you
to review and test the interface this week before it is made available to
the public. Please email your comments and feedback to the MetaLib
Implementation group members directly or use the feedback link w/in
MetaLib. Also, if your library or department would like a MetaLib demo and
discussion during this review period, please contact audrey.novak at yale.edu
to arrange a 1hr session with members of the implementation group.
METALIB FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How will ML be rolled out to production? For the initial rollout, PIC
designed a modest change to the Front Door Databases and Articles page that
points to MetaLib. The draft page can be seen at:
http://www.library.yale.edu/databases/indexml.html
What's changed since the last time I looked at MetaLib a month ago?
- The categories and database mappings were populated and refined based on
Selector input.
- The information records were expanded to include more fields from the
DBOW records such as Telephone Reference, Email Reference, Licensing
information, and more.
- The public interface was streamlined. (For example: Simple search was
removed; Databases are no longer pre-selected because this feature did not
work consistently; A footer was introduced; A key to the database types was
added.)
- Help files were updated to reflect the changes in our public interface.
- Authentication by netid was introduced to enable personalization features.
- A survey was introduced.
What should I review and test? Everything! But here are a few suggestions,
and if you have time please try them in both IE and Firefox:
- Try searches in each of the Quickstart sets (w/o logging in).
- Login to MetaLib to enable personalization features such as My Research.
- Find Databases and add several to My Research.
- Go to My Research, create your own Category and populate it with some or
all of the databases added to the My Research list of databases in the
previous step.
- Try Multi-Database search. Navigate to a Category and Subcategory. Review
the database list. Look at some Information records. Select a few databases
and try some searches.
- After executing a multi-database search, look at a few records from the
first database. View results in other databases and look at records from
another database. Try combining the results.
- With results displaying, try the different record views, i.e., Table,
Brief and Full.
- Try some SFX links, e.g., get fulltext, run an Orbis search from an SFX menu.
- Add a few records to My Research and later go to My Research and email
the records to yourself.
- Log out and complete the survey.
We look forward to hearing from you about MetaLib.
