Hello Everyone -

After Kathryn James' terrific REFresher of the Beinecke collections in
which she mentioned Art Storage, I wanted to make a clear distinction
between it and ARTstor.

According to the Beinecke web site, "The
<http://inky.library.yale.edu/art_storage.html>Art Storage database
contains brief records for large paintings, watercolors, sculpture,
memorabilia, and objects in the Beinecke collections. There are several
access points -- collection, creator, subject/title, medium and support --
as well as a brief description of the item. This database was created as a
locator file and NOT as a catalog. Other art in the Beinecke collections
can be located through the Manuscript Card Catalog, the
<http://webtext.library.yale.edu/finddocs/fadsear.htm>Database of Archival
Collections and Manuscripts and the two Yale Collection of American
Literature files --
<http://www.library.yale.edu/orbis/special_catalogs.html#ycal>Objects and
Memorabilia."

ARTstor (www.artstor.org) is a repository of hundreds of thousands of
digital images and related data. ARTstor does not have any Yale
collections in its database. Yale licenses ARTstor content which, until
2004, was supported by the Mellon Foundation. ARTstor is now an
independent entity. Here is the listing of collections within the charter
collection:
