Hello -

Yesterday two non-Yale students enrolled in a summer program came into the
SML Privileges Office because they could not log into Orbis.

Quoted below is information I received from Paul Broniek, the manager of
the ID Center, that may be helpful if you are being asked about NetIDs by
summer program students:

There was a big problem with students not transferring into the
Oracle database because of a Banner problem. Some students went through to
Oracle late and therefore, did not have Netid's created because of the 72
hour turn around time from Banner to Oracle to the Data Warehouse.
The answer to your question on CAS authentication is when the students
receive their acceptance into the program, they have a letter with their
NETID & Pin, along with instructions on how to activate their NETID's. Once
they do that, it takes 20 minutes from time of activation to have full
access to Yale's domain and CAS systems.
I'm only assuming that these students who tried logging in did not
activate their NETID's and should be instructed to refer to the letter with
their NETID information.

Please refer students who do not have their letters to the director of the
summer program they are participating in.

Sue
