Instant Messaging (IM) will be implemented on Wednesday, September 5 as the only
platform for the provision of Yale?s central chat reference service, Ask!live.
Instant Messaging will also provide those libraries, departments, and
collections with direct public service responsibilities another means to meet
the reference needs of their individual constituents.

The Reference Group is sponsoring a series of four training and information
sessions in July and August to support and encourage the development of this
new service through the meebo web-based IM platform < http://www.meebo.com >.
This training is open to all librarians, managers, curators, and selectors who
wish to expand existing library-, department-, or collection-based e-mail
reference services through the addition of a new service technology. The dates
and times are as follows:

Tuesday, July 24, 1:00-2:00 (SCML)
Friday, August 4, 9:30-10:30 (SML 609)
Thursday, August 9, 2:00-3:00 (SML 609)
Friday, August 10, 10:00-11:00 (SCML)

Please sign up for one of these sessions, ?Instant Messaging for Reference
Services?, at
https://medapps13.med.yale.edu/tms/tms_enrollments.offerings?p_crs_id=1083&p_std_id=

We're planning separate training and information sessions for individual
librarians, managers, curators, and selectors who wish to set up personal IM
accounts to supplement liaison service to faculty and students in specific
schools, programs, and/or departments. Please watch for an announcement of
these sessions, or contact me directly to express your interest.
