Hello,
This is a reminder about the workshop on the use of primary sources
in teaching at Yale that will take place on Friday, November 9th. It
will begin with a session for librarians/archivists/curators at 1:00
p.m., with presentations by Pamela Franks (Art Gallery), Lisa
Ford/Julia Marciari-Alexander (YCBA), George Miles (Beinecke) and
Diane Kaplan (MSSA)., followed by discussion. Please see the schedule
and registration link at
http://www.yale.edu/collections_collaborative/workshop.html.
We would like to include as many faculty and graduate students in the
conversation as possible. To this end, I would be grateful if you
could send the following message to any faculty or graduate students
with whom you have contact:
Workshop on the Use of Primary Sources in Teaching at Yale
On November 9th the Yale Collections Collaborative (
http://www.yale.edu/collections_collaborative/ ) is sponsoring a
workshop on the use of primary sources in teaching at Yale in HGS Rm.
119, the McDougal Center.
There will be refreshments available beginning at 2:00 p.m., with
opportunity to talk with Yale librarians/archivist/curators who are
attending the workshop. A faculty panel (Janice Carlisle, John Mack
Faragher, and Seth Fein) will begin at 2:30 p.m., with follow-up
discussion facilitated by Bill Rando of the Graduate Teaching
Center. We have asked the faculty panel to talk about how they have
used primary sources in their courses, what methods have worked or
not worked, what types of tools, activities, or interactions would
facilitate the use of primary sources. This will also be an
opportunity for faculty and graduate students to provide feedback
about the new "Primary Sources at Yale" web site that is being
developed: http://www.yale.edu/collections_collaborative/primarysources/.
If you plan to attend, please submit the registration form that is
linked to from
http://www.yale.edu/collections_collaborative/workshop.html. If you
are not able to attend, we would still welcome your feedback re. the
new "Primary Sources at Yale" web site (keeping in mind that the
temporary design of the site will be revised once the content is
set). Please send comments and suggestions to Martha.Smalley at yale.edu.
Thanks
Martha
