Saturday, 9/17- Lighthouse Point Park was not only home for the Hawk
Festival, it was also home to 18 species of butterflies. The list for the day is as
follows:

Black Swallowtail (4) (all males)
Checkered White (1) (male)
Cabbage White (5)
Clouded Sulphur (15)
Orange Sulphur (6)
Cloudless Sulphur (2)
Gray Hairstreak (3)
Eastern Tailed Blue (3)
Summer Azure (1)
Variegated Fritillary (1-2)
Pearl Crescent (1)
American Lady (2)
Painted Lady (8)
Red Admiral (1)
Monarch (46) (including 31 tagged by Rich Chyinski)
Fiery Skipper (3 males, 1 female)
Tawny-edged Skipper (1) (This ties the record late date for the species. If
anyone sees it after today, please let me know.)
Ocola Skipper (1)

The Checkered White was patrolling a section of barren land between the
concrete barriers west of the Hawk Watch and the water, just north of the picnic
area. However, it could be found anywhere in the park where there is barren
ground.
