  * MUSIC REQUESTS AT THE BLUE DOG CAFE / ( )/
Come add a song to the request list at the Blue Dog Cafe, or add a
check mark to one already on the list. The most-requested songs will
be added to a Blue Dog playlist. After the playlist is made you'll be
able to make song requests at the Blue Dog! The Blue Dog is  open
M,Th, F 8:30am-5pm; Tu, W 8:30am-8pm.

  * CHOCOLATE TASTING SOCIAL HOUR / (02-23-2009 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM)/
Watch out folks, this is not your usual chocolate tasting: featuring
full spectrum chocolate colors from extreme dark to milky white,
cheap and fancy. Taste it with fruit, with wine and even blindfolded!
Join others in HGS 119 to eat, smell, and talk chocolate.  Tickets are
$5. Come in to the McDougal Ticket office to pick them up in advance
or buy them at the door.

  * WAFFLE CONE NIGHT @ HGS DINING HALL / (02-24-2009 5:00 PM - 8:00

After your dinner, make yourself a special ice cream dessert in a
giant waffle cone with all the toppings! Regular meal prices apply;

  * TALENT TUESDAYS RETURN / (02-24-2009 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM)/
Have you been missing these intimate, world-class performances by
your collegues in the common room on Tuesday evenings at 7?  Well,
they're back, baby!  This Tuesday at 7PM in the McDougal Center
Common Room at HGS, get comfortable in a couch or cushy chair and
enjoy a fabulous concert of chamber music by Bach, Brahms, Hindemith,
and Kodaly.  FYI, after this one, there will be two more Talent
Tuesdays this semester.  If you have any type of talent and would
like to perform, please email thomas.bergeron at yale.edu.

  * GPSCY'S CONCERT SERIES, BARTENDING CLASS, AND OBAMA'S ADDRESS /

This Tuesday GPSCY will be opening at 7pm for our annual bartending
class (please RSVP to classes at gpscy.net). Stick around till 9pm to
watch President Obama's Address to Congress. Then at 10pm, the GPSCY
Concert Series will resume as both Kings and the Fake Babies come in
and perform some great sets.

  * GRAD NIGHT @ NHSO: AMISTAD REMEMBRANCE / (02-26-2009 7:30 PM)/
Join fellow grad students/postdocs for a great New Haven Symphony
concert of New Haven inspired music based on the Amistad incident,
with music about the struggle against slavery and for freedom. $10
with Yale ID @ McDougal Tix office 124 HGS, 10a-5pm.

  * BIG GAY PARTY IN GPSCY'S LOUNGE / (02-26-2009 9:00 PM)/
Join your friendly fellow members of the graduate and professional
LGBTQ community in the back room of GPSCY. $2 mixed drinks till 11pm

Ryan-Krause, MS, RN, MSN, CPNP, Associate Professor of Nursing in the

  * GRAD FAMILY DAY @ WIZARD OF OZ / (02-28-2009 1:00 PM)/
The Yale Children's Theatre is performing the childhood classic The
Wizard of Oz the weekend of February 27-March 1 at Dwight Hall Common
Room (67 High Street). McDougal Grad Family Day will be at the 2/28
1pm show, with free snacks afterwards. Grad/Postdoc parents can email
mcdougal.center at yale.edu by Feb 25 for 1 free adult & 2 free child
tickets, while supplies last. Additional tickets are $3 for adults,

  * TOM'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
The School of Music's finest ensembles combine forces on Sunday,
March 1st, at 4PM in Woolsey Hall, as world famous Baroque conductor
Nicholas McGegan leads the school's Philharmonia, Camerata, Glee
Club, Schola Cantorum, Voxtet, and Collegium players in a concert of
Haydn's Te Deum, Der Sturm, and Symphony No. 103 in E-flat Major,
"Drumroll"; Mendelssohn's Verleih uns Frieden, Hear My Prayer,and
Handel's As Pants the Hart; Te Deum; Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah.
Free admission.

  * ELLEN'S KIDS AND FAMILY TIP OF THE WEEK

The --- Jazz Trio is looking for either a saxophone, piano, or

  * ELIZABETH AND ELIZABETH'S HEALTH TIP OF THE WEEK
Did you know that its flu season?  It is also becoming strep throat
season as well.  No matter what if you start to get symptomatic the
best medicine is rest!  Although your lab mates may not think you
need increased sleep, they will appreciate not being exposed to your
germs and a more speedy recovery on your behalf.  Also, you can
always go to YUHS with other questions or a definitive diagnosis.

  * ERIN'S COMMUNITY SERVICE TIP OF THE WEEK
Do you drink lots of Coke products?  Save those bottle tops and toss
them in the container in the Blue Dog Cafe at the McDougal common
room @ HGS. The codes will be used to donate rewards points to The
Red Dress project to support women's heart health.

  * CAITIE'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
Carol Levitt Altieri will be reading from her poetry at the Yale 
Bookstore on Thursday 6:00PM - 8:30PM, including selections from The
Jade Bower: New and Selected Poems. Open Mic poetry reading
afterward.

  * MATT'S SOCIAL TIP OF THE WEEK
Did you know that a new comedy club has opened in New Haven? 
Ultraradio.com has given the McDougal Center tickets for free

  * GRAD PARENT OUTREACH LUNCHEON: HOW TO CHOOSE A SUMMER CAMP /
(03-04-2009 12:00 PM - 1:15 PM)/
This panel discussion led by camp directors will address guiding
principles for choosing a summer camp, geared for parents of children
ages 5-12 years. The presenters will address different types of camps
(day, overnight and specialty), tips on how to assess quality of
camps, understanding the best type of camp for your child, and the
overall benefits of camp. This discussion is co-sponsored by the
McDougal Family Fellows and Yale WorkLife. Free lunch provided in HGS

  * INTERNATIONAL CENTER CAFE: INTERNATION WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION /

Join us for a fabulous evening which will include performances by
ASEMPA, the Yale Bellydance Society, the Phoenix Dance Troupe, the
Citations, and the Academia Nuts.  We will also be doing a food drive
for the CT Food Bank that evening - please bring non-perishable food

New England forests are rich in natural resources, the sweetest of
which is maple syrup! Families are invited to enjoy nature in the
winter and learn about the sap to syrup process.  Brunch featuring
locally made maple syrup, pancakes, and Common Ground raised eggs and
bacon.  Admission is $5 per person for ages 6 through adult; ages 5
and under are free.  In the event of severe weather, this event will
be re-scheduled for Sunday, March 15. Please call for weather
