>Duties and responsibilities
>
>Under the direction and supervision of the Director-General of UNESCO,
>the incumbent shall be responsible for ensuring the functioning of the
>Secretariat of the World Heritage Committee (Article 14, para. 1 of the
>Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural
>Heritage). In doing so, the incumbent shall be responsible for the
>proper implementation of the World Heritage Convention and the execution of the
>Committee’s decisions. In particular, these tasks shall comprise:

>1. Direct the UNESCO Secretariat in the implementation of the World Heritage
>Convention; 

>2. Direct and manage the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, its programme, financial
>resources and supervise the work of the staff, allocate duties and
>evaluate performances; 

>3. Convene the statutory meetings under the World Heritage Convention such
as the
>General Assembly of the States Parties, sessions of the World Heritage
>Committee and its Bureau and its subsidiary organs;

programmes. Act as UNESCO’s focal point and coordinate operational

house services to UNESCO Member States on matters pertaining to the World

>7. Promote greater awareness and understanding of the World Heritage

>Qualifications and experience required:

>Ph.D. in either the scientific or cultural fields.

>Wide experience in administration and resource management.

>At least 10 years’ professional experience in international cooperation,
>including five years in a directional position.

>Experience in interdisciplinary and intersectoral work.
>
>Several years of experience in the management of an international legal
>instrument.
>
>Knowledge of informatics an asset.
>
>Languages required
>
>Excellent knowledge of English and very good knowledge of French.

>Salary and allowances:
>
>Initial appointment will be at D-2 level with a net salary equivalent to
>US $80,334 per annum ($73,801 if without dependants), plus the following
annual >allowances: post adjustment, at present $21,530 for staff members with
>dependants, and $19,779 for staff members without dependants; and family
>allowance of 10,141 French francs for each dependent child (if there is no
>dependent spouse, this allowance is not payable in respect of the first
dependent >child).

>Participation in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and the
