While we're on the topic of electronic information, it occurs to me that no
one ever posted the website that resulted from the October Digital
Gazetteer workshop:

If this all comes to fruition the way it's intended, it will give those of
us who work in natural history museums an ideal resource for getting
georeferenced data conversions of our old locality labels and such, and
also then help put our newly georeferenced natural history data in the
hands of people who can make use of it (if only to complete the loop, in a
way, since one of the defining properties of a point in space is the list
of species that occur there). The plan is to expand upon resources like the
USGS-GNIS site (http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html), develop
nice graphic interfaces to go with them, and so forth. Very promising.

I encourage anyone who knows of further developments along these lines to
keep folks here appraised - a LOT of us can benefit from this if it goes as
planned.
