For more than a century the Burke Museum, located on the beautiful UW
campus in Seattle, has fulfilled the dual role of state museum and
university museum with major commitments to teaching and research. With
internationally-known collections and top researchers in Anthropology
(Northwest Coast and Pacific Rim emphasis), Paleontology, and Zoology, a
budget of $2.8 million, and a full-time staff of 35 (including eight
academic curators), the museum undertakes a full range of research
activities, public programs, and exhibits. Consult

The Director is responsible for management of the museum and its
programs. In addition, the Director will oversee the planning, funding,
and implementation of a proposed major expansion (new building) of the
museum and its public programs. The successful candidate will be a
visionary leader, an outstanding communicator and team builder with
excellent managerial skills and a strong record of fundraising. This
position may be offered as an academic appointment or a professional staff
appointment depending on the successful candidates qualifications and
desires. An academic appointment would include a tenured faculty position
in an appropriate department. A competitive compensation package will be
