Two that I have found that I like are neither technical, nor recent, nor all inclusive, but useful.

Winterringer, Glen S. 1961. Some plant galls of Illinois. Illinois State Museum, Story of Illinois Series No. 12. 51 pages.

Hutchins, Ross E. 1969. Galls and Gall Insects. Dodd, Mead, & Company, NY. 128 pages.

I also have stuck inside the pages of the above:

Abrahamson, W.G., K.E. McCrea and S.S. Anderson. 1989. Host preference and recognition by the goldenrod ball gallmaker Eurosta solidaginis (Diptera: Tephritidae). Amer. Midl. Nat. 121: 322-330.

Hope that one or more of these is useful to you -- and please pass along anything else you may find.
