MAP Grant Award Amounts Increased
The American Association of Museums offers four types of assessments through
the Museum Assessment Program (MAP): Institutional, Collections Management,
Public Dimension, and Governance. Museums of all disciplines are eligible to
receive grants from IMLS that support most of the costs of a MAP assessment.
Beginning with the December 1, 2003 grant deadline, grant amounts will
increase to $2325 for single Surveyor assessments and $3820 for two Surveyor
assessments. The revised amounts will support increases to the following:
* Surveyor honoraria
* Travel expenses for two Surveyor assessments
* Administration fees
* Implementation funds
In the past, grant recipients have received $100 for technical assistance
(e.g. purchasing reference materials, memberships, etc.). Awardees will now
receive $300 in implementation funds in order to implement recommendations
made by their Surveyor(s). The $300 must be spent according to IMLS federal
grant spending guidelines, must follow one or more recommendations made by
the MAP Surveyor(s), and must be spent prior to the end of the museum's
grant period.
Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible
institutions. If you have eligibility questions, contact Jeannette Thomas,
Program Officer, IMLS at jkthomas at imls.gov or 202-606-8548. In commemoration
of the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1803-1806, IMLS
encourages eligible museums in the trail states to apply. Museums in these
states will receive preference for MAP grant funding for the December 1,
2003 deadline.
