In pursuit of their vision, NMS is actively engaged in enhancing
public services, improving the care of the collection and driving
organisational effectiveness in order to improve accessibility,
both nationally and internationally.

Due to the forthcoming retirement of the current incumbent, an
outstanding opportunity has arisen to join the team reporting
to the Director of Collections.

The Keeper will be responsible for leading and managing the
development, interpretation, organisation, preservation and
access to the Natural Sciences Collection, which incorporates
some of the largest geological and zoological collections within
the UK.

The Keeper will have specific responsibility for developing the
knowledge base and leading the research activity associated
with the Departmental collections, as well as being expected
to provide considerable input into the redevelopment plans
for the Royal Museum. The Keeper will play a major role in
representing NMS nationally and internationally; negotiating
and liaising with external bodies.

Candidates will be expected to have a strong academic profile
in a relevant discipline and a proven track record of leadership
of a team of specialists and collections, preferably in a
museum environment. Senior level management and financial
responsibility experience are also required, as are strong
communication and presentation skills.
