Assistant Collection Manager
Spencer Museum of Art
The University of Kansas
The Assistant Collection Manager will work closely with the Collection
Manager, the Curator of Art and Cultures of the Americas and Africa, and
Assistant Director for Collections to care for approximately 10,000
ethnographic objects from North America, Africa, Asia, Latin America,
and Australia. The Assistant Collection Manager will be responsible for
maintaining the physical well-being and documentation of the collection.
This position requires frequent interaction with a broad range of
individuals including donors, volunteers, artists, and vendors.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree or higher in Anthropology, Art History, Museum
Studies or related field
2. One to two years museum registration/collection management experience
or an equivalent combination of education and experience (paid,
volunteer, or internship)
3. Collections management database experience
4. Knowledge of professional standards for collections care
5. In-depth understanding of museum legal and ethical issues
6. Familiarity with Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation
Act
7. Familiarity with preventive conservation methods and procedures
8. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in order to meet
established deadlines
9. Demonstrated ability to work with very little direct supervision
10. Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application
materials
11. The ability to climb stairs and ladders; and the ability to lift
objects up to 30 lbs.
Salary: $30,000-32,000 annually with benefits
