The Royal British Columbia Museum Corporation is the only organization
in the world dedicated specifically to the preservation of, and
education about, the human and natural history of British Columbia.  Its
mandate is to fulfill the Government's responsibilities for public
trusteeship of the Provincial collections and exhibits.  The collection
is preserved for existing and future generations of British Columbia.  

 

The Natural History Section of the Curatorial Services Branch has an
excellent opportunity for a person with a passion for collecting and
maintaining invertebrate, ichthyology and herpetology specimens! The
Collection Manager will be responsible for curating scientific specimens
of invertebrates (not including terrestrial arthropods), fish, reptiles
and amphibians by identifying acquisition goals; recommending the
collection and disposition of specimens; identifying BC specimens;
registering, grouping, organizing, preparing and preserving specimens.
The incumbent will be involved in organizing, leading and participating
in fieldwork to collect specimens for scientific research, and
educational purposes.  

 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology
plus 3 years of related and progressively responsible experience in
museum collections preparation, documentation, care and supervision.
The ideal candidate will have proven knowledge of the non-insect
invertebrates, fish, reptiles and amphibians of British Columbia, along
with broad knowledge of museum practices relating to the relaxation,
fixation and preservation of non-insect invertebrates, fish, reptiles
and amphibians.  As a member of an organization responsible for sharing
the wonders of the collection, the successful candidate will preferably
have experience with public programming and the ability to prepare and
deliver presentations and provide information in both verbal and written
form, about invertebrates, fish, reptiles, amphibians and the museum to
the academic and general user community.
