[Nhcoll-l] Effect of Global Database Inclusion on Loan Requests

Sarah,

I too have also noticed an increase in our loans since our collections went online over a decade ago. Our loan numbers fluctuate quite a bit from year to year and we have been online for so long, that its hard to quantify the effect. Like Andy, we too have seen more interest from internationals. Maybe a 20% increase overall, though the biggest impact has been the reduction of general information requests that we would otherwise have to handle. Most people now get our data through FishNet et al. and we rarely have to compile and send out spreadsheets to people anymore.

Subject: [Nhcoll-l] Effect of Global Database Inclusion on Loan Requests

We are hoping to upload our collection database to FishNet2 in the coming months, and I was wondering if anyone has any data about the effect of inclusion in these types of global databases on loan requests. After adding a collection database to a global databse (e.g., FishNet2, HerpNET, ORNIS, etc.), did loan requests noticeably increase? If so, does anyone have any data indicating the percent increase?

Many thanks,

Sarah
