My department has an in-press manuscript that covers the importance and value of curators in natural history museums.  It comes out next month and I plan to share the citation/pdf as soon as it is published.  Attached is the Literature Cited section, much of which fall into the category you are looking for (though some are popular news articles too).  I also have pdfs of every article/book cited, in case anyone is struggling with getting their hands on a copy of something.

Hi, folks. Do you know where to find a list of papers about "why collections matter"? One of my colleagues needs evidence to show administrators that collections space should be expanding, not shrinking, during a future remodel of the building.
