[Nhcoll-l] old glass containers

... brushing with a brass brush works very well, too; this method has 
the advantage that you bring the very thin silicone film off that 
normally remains on the glass surface (e.g. if you use razor blades to 
scratch the silicone off - old aquarium hobbyist trick ;-)

A bit tiresome so, but good results (may stain the glass surface a bit 
golden, but this rather just looks fancy without causing trouble). For 
closing again, use a high quality vacuum grease (be sure to exclude any 
silicone based vacuum greases).
