[Nhcoll-l] Google scholar citation index for collections

I heartily endorse Andy's suggestion. Since we created our collection's GS
profile (announced in a note in Nature in Jan 2013), we've seen an increase
of ~3 per yr in our *h*-index, well above what Jorge Hirsch viewed as the
slope of a successful scientist (an increase of 1 per yr) when he invented
the *h*-index in 2005. It is a collection statistic that resonates with the
science side of our audience, including many administrators at our
institution.

Another benefit of the profile is that it shows how diverse the
collection's use has been, adding a publicly visible endorsement for why
broad institutional collecting is necessary, especially when conditions are
changing rapidly.
