We are looking for someone to manage our Geoscience Collection at the NM Museum of Natural History and Science. The Geoscience Collection houses fossils of vertebrates, invertebrates, and plants, as well as rocks and minerals, although vertebrate paleontology is the predominant collection.

Job description:
The collection specialist is responsible for the maintenance and management of the Geoscience collections by providing expert physical care, and by providing access to collections through loans, for visitors and responding to enquiries in their area of expertise, and contributing to exhibitions and public programs. The collection specialist works closely with curators in the department and maintains an electronic database of all specimens in the collection and associated metadata. The collection specialist may also oversee undergraduate and graduate student assistants, interns, and volunteers working in collections. The position requires a broad variety of experience, flexibility, and demonstrable hands-on abilities with a range of tasks.

Education and experience:
The job requires general knowledge equivalent to a Master's degree in an earth science field (e.g., geology), biology, museum studies or related field, with at least 2 years work experience in museum collections' management, care, and documentation. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Expert knowledge of electronic databases is essential. Experience working with exhibits and public programs is preferred.
