We're looking for someone who lead our education initiatives by developing programs and lesson plans, coordinating with instructors both on-campus and off, developing outreach materials, and who has a passion for sharing science focused on botany and conservation biology. This person would work with our small team to help build a program that is integrated into the fabric of MSU. Please share this broadly!

Position Summary
The Outreach Specialist/Education Program Director will support faculty and student success by developing opportunities and programs to maximize the use of the Garden in teaching and other educational efforts, both within the campus and broader community. The person filling this position should be enthusiastic, creative, inquisitive, and be able to engage educational groups in exciting programs that highlight plants, people and the environment. The Academic Specialist-Outreach/Educational Program Director will be a key resource to faculty wishing to expand classroom curriculum to include the Garden as a part of achieving their hands-on learning objectives. They will coordinate and lead tours and classes in the Garden and manage all educational events at the Garden.  This individual will also provide mentorship of undergraduate interns, graduate assistants, and related projects in the Garden. This position is full-time.

Required Degree
Masters -botany, biology, science education or related field

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree from an accredited institution.
Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs;
Ability to travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position;
Ability to work infrequently outside of regular working hours;
Ability to work outdoors in sometimes challenging conditions

Desired Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in botany, biology, science education or a related field; demonstrated understanding of plant biology.
Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to diverse audiences/communities, and proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences
Experience in educational program development and development of educational materials and/or lesson plans.
Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently in an office environment without daily supervision and/or coaching.
Ability to create and carryout a project plan from research of initial concept to project completion and follow-up.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.) for day-to-day work and educational program delivery, record keeping, reporting, team-based communications, and overall management
