Something's Missing

Karen - I have lots of Tiger Swallowtails, G-spangled Fritilaries, and =
Black Swallowtails (amongst many others) coming to the buddleia and =
coneflowers in my yard during these recent sunny days. In fact, there =
seems to have been an explosion of new activity! I'm not trying to rub =
it in, but point out how hard it is to draw a conclusion on butterfly =
populations based upon a single site, or area. If they are missing in =
one place where they have been found in the past, they could be making =
up for their absence elsewhere. =20

What I have noticed (and wonder if anyone else has), is that the =
caterpillars I've been coming across are a few instars behind where =
they'd normally be this time of year. I've seen this in a few places. =
I wonder if this could be due to all of the rain this season. =20

Today, a nice fresh second brood of Silver-spotted Skippers arrived in =
the yard! Waiting for those Fierys!
