This is an off week for updating my web site
http://www.hmana.org/mulberry , but some sightings over the weekend are
worth a mention at this time. Little Yellows were seen (and happily
photographed) in 3 New York counties -- Queens, Nassau, and Westchester.
Since a couple of the sightings were away from the traditional Long
Island coastal sites, everyone should keep their eyes open. The latter
site was in Rye, which is getting toward the Connecticut part of the
coast.
A Queen was photographed at the James Ramsay Hunt Sanctuary (Bylane
Farm), which happens to be my Westchester moth survey site. There have
been a bunch of reports before this in the area, but I received pictures
this time. Release or natural vagrant has been the question surrounding
this situation. Not that the pictures will provide the answer, but
perhaps its geographical origin can be told. I hope to have the picture
up next week.
