Request for info on preserving Swallowtails as per Harry

Any dead butterflies can be treated as standard collection specimens.  
Meaning: simply let them dry out with wings open or closed.  Open is 
good for display, but closed is good for long-term preservation (less chance of 
damage).  Closed-wing specimens need to be kept in a small envelope, preferrably 
the glassine kind used for stamps.  Make sure the date and location of the 
butterfly is written on the envelope or attached on a piece of paper.  Any serious 
lepidopterists will tell you that the data that accompanies a butterfly 
(or for that matter a photo) is as valuable as the specimen itself.  For a 
scientist, the specimen (or photo) and data are integral components of a butterfly 
record, each useless without the other.
