Any dead butterflies can be treated as standard collection specimens.
Meaning: simply let them dry out with wings open or closed. Open is
good for display, but closed is good for long-term preservation (less chance of
damage). Closed-wing specimens need to be kept in a small envelope, preferrably
the glassine kind used for stamps. Make sure the date and location of the
butterfly is written on the envelope or attached on a piece of paper. Any serious
lepidopterists will tell you that the data that accompanies a butterfly
(or for that matter a photo) is as valuable as the specimen itself. For a
scientist, the specimen (or photo) and data are integral components of a butterfly
record, each useless without the other.
Good luck on the interview with John...
May all your 'journeys have the spirits of our roundtable with you!!
