We visited the Macricostas Preserve, in Washington township, Litchfield 
Co. ( part of Steep Rock lands, see this webpage:  
http://www.steeprockassoc.org/MS.html ) today, finding a female Bronze 
Copper still out at stream-side, not far from the parking area, along 
with a fresh-looking Viceroy, & a Common Checkered-Skipper in very good 
shape.  A very worn Great Spangled Fritillary was on the purple Verbena 
bonariensis blooms at the small butterfly garden, and a near-ghost of a 
female E. Tailed-Blue in the meadows. There were plenty of both Orange 
& Clouded Sulphurs, & Cabbage Whites.  A nice variety of small diurnal 
moths were also seen, as well as a good number of Aeshna (mosaic 
darner) dragonflies along the wet areas. The preserve is off Rte. 202 
about opposite Rte. 45 & has an extensive walking trail.  Thanks to 
Peary Stafford for all his & others good works & season-long butterfly 
observations there.
