polyphemous moth

Hi, Last winter I picked up a cocoon off the ground at Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington. I took it home and kind of absentmindedly put it in a butterfly habitat-ish thing I got when my daughter wanted to raise painted ladies. It hadn't done a thing and the other day I had resolved to chuck it in another week or so if nothing happened. I figured it was a "dud". Nope. Last night it hatched, and it is just so lovely. I don't think I've ever seen a moth this big. Talk about worth the wait. Thank heavens I didn't junk it too soon. Just thought I'd share the story. Diane Tucker
