[Ctleps-l] butterfly nets

Diane -- for many years I used the standard bioquip model with an
aluminum handle and white, sort of stiff net. An all-purpose insect
net.
But then I went on a trip with some British friends looking at odes in
the Camargue. Great trip. But I was blown away by the black chiffon
nets they used -- lighter, don't snag on thorns and stuff nearly as
much, don't seem to spook the leps quite as much (clear difference
with odes, which will let a black net approach quite closely). I
bought several in London then, and now I find BioQuip is also carrying
them --

The other great thing about them is that they don't come to a cone at
the end, which for swallowtails in particular does a lot of damage to
the tails if they get turned around wrong. The chiffon bags are cut
flat across the bottom. I also find the dark color makes it easier to
see what you have than a white bag in full sun, especially when it
hasn't been stained by grass and squished insects yet.
I personally prefer the largest diameter net, 21".
But happy to hear what other folks recommend; if you reply online I'll
collect the responses for readers of LepLog too ...
