Subject: Invisible Web (The Book)

Dear Colleagues -

Resources not visible to Web search engines have figured before in
these mailings <http://www.yale.edu/engineering/eng-info/msg00724.html>. Although the reach of search engines steadily expands, the "invisible"
portion continues to be large.

<http://www.freepint.com/issues/041001.htm#bookshelf> reviews a new
book "The Invisible Web: Uncovering Information Sources Search Engines
Can't See," by Gary Price and Chris Sherman. Very much worth your
attention.

And if you teach, you should at least assign some homework problems
that students can only solve by becoming aware of "invisible Web"
resources which are often the most academically pertinent. Although
not specified explicitly, Web retrieval skills of that kind are
intrinsic to the ABET-required (a)-(k) skill set, e.g. (e), (h), (i),
(j) and particularly (k).
