[Insightl] Accessing folder level groups

Has anyone had success reading/accessing the content of 'folder level 
groups' from outside of Insight?
Collection level groups are easy to replicate/access outside of Insight as 
they are just table entries - the lower level personal folder level groups 
can't be open and read - at least not easily ... any leads appreciated.
