An example, to whit.  Twenty odd years ago I watched an Okamoto Kihachi
movie at the Pacific Film Archive with an older scholar who had been
raised in Japan and was fluent--and could not follow the film at all.
I could, despite my lack of Japanese because I could read the cutting
and the genre.  Just a note.
