Madadayo played in Chicago for a week at the FACETS theater, and was widely
reviewed in the newspapers and entertainment weeklies. I remember reading
a number of positive reviews, suffused with good will toward Kurosawa. If
I'm not mistaken, FACETS had a website which collected the reviews (though
it was the same week Hanabi played at another theater and I may be
confusing the two). It was also reviewed on local public radio WBEZ,
though, as it's the manager of FACETS who does their reviewing, its more in
the nature of an advertisement. They also have a site where you can
probably access the review.
