Kurosawa preservation

The Japanese papers here have reported the formation in Hollywood of a 
society to preserve the films of Kurosawa Akira. Members include Steven 
Spielberg, Martin Scorcese and Francis Ford Coppola. The society's aim is 
the preservation and distribution of the 30 films of Kurosawa, only 20 of 
which (the papers said) are readily available in the States (in what 
form?) and often in poor condition.

Is there anyone closer to the source who has more information on this?
