My name: Stephen Sarrazin.

Canadian professor & critic, currently based in Paris, where I lecture
at Paris VIII University, and am also head of program at ESEC (ecole
superieure d'?tudes cinematographiques). ESEC is one the three national
film schools in France, with the FEMIS and Louis Lumiere.

I specialize in contemporary image culture from Japan (film,tv,
animation, digital media, experimental video, etc.), and in media art
using electronic technologies (various contemporary art forms).
I've written over the years for both contemporary art magazines and film
publications, besides participating in various colloquiums and
symposiums on both subjects, and doing thematic programs or selections,
or curating, for various festivals and exhibitions.

For the last 2 years, I"ve been working closely with a new magazine
publsihed in Paris, called HK, which is devoted exclusively to Asian
cinema. And I do consultation work for distributors & networks who are
looking to release new films from Japan.

I will soon be taking part in a pannel discussion devoted to Nikkatsu
director, Kumashiro, whose films will shown later this month at La
Maison de la Culture du Japon, in Paris.

I've got two books scheduled, for a French publisher, on the subject of
Conteporary image culture in Japan, and will moving to Japan, next
Spring, for some time, to do additional research. I would be especially
interested to make contact with fellow critics and professors
currrentlyy in Japan, or who were recently there within the context of a
research project.

(for anyone interested, Shigehiko Hasumi was in Paris recently, to
promote the translation of his book on Ozu, published by les Cahiers du
Cinema).
