Despite press reports, no sign here in Seoul of "Love Apocalypse", but
Park Chul-Soo's "Kazoku Cinema" is released on 28 November. Kitano's
"Hana-bi" is released one week later on 5 December, followed by
Kurosawa's "Kagemusha" on 12 December. But publicity campaigns for
these two films are very low key, only the latter having posters on the
subway system. And the brochure for "Hana-bi", which folds out into a
poster, only visible at the cinema it opens at next month. General
concensus here is that Japanese films will take about 10% of the Korean
market; Korean films have about 18%, while of course Hollywood dominates
with as much as 70% of the market. (In comparison, when restrictions
are lifted on Japanese music, its expected to take 20% of the market.)
