Kinema Club Threads & Jackasses

As someone who joined the KineJapan mailing list quite late, I'd appreciate
some means of accessing previously posted introductions, perhaps as a list
command. Rather than transforming the list into a moderated forum - which I
think is a horrendous idea - perhaps sufficient decorum can be maintained if
we were all less anonymous. If after a couple of weeks of joining someone
hasn't introduced themselves, kick them off.

I'd actually go as far as having a questionnaire for each member to fill in
soon after joining with their "real world" mailing address, specialised
interests, etc. (No need for age, curriculum vitae or blood type.) I love
to see replies hitting the list within minutes rather than hours. Strip the
spontaneity and you kill the list. Over time, list membership will
inevitably grow larger and the question of moderation will arise again. But
lets fight that as long as possible.

Personally, I wasn't so bothered about Lancearts postings. Like Colin
Geddes' "gobbledygook" outburst, it adds colour to the list. If anything,
the list is a little too civilised at times: I certainly hold back a lot of
gossip. What does annoy me are the video trading posts (which seem to pop
up whenever Aaron is off at a conference somewhere), the accommodation
requests and the single-line "thank yous". And perhaps you could programme
the listserver to strip off those annoying cod quotations at the end of<cut>
