Natsukawa Shizue

The papers reported that Natsukawa Shizue, one of the last remaining 
actresses from the silent era, died at the age of 89.  She first appeared 
on stage in 1916 and appeared in such early "reformist" films as 
Kaeriyama Norimasa's _Sei no kagayaki_.  She worked at Nikkatsu and Toho 
and her most well-known sound film is _Kojima no haru_ (1940).  Natsukawa 
has provided valuable testimony on the state of filmmaking in the early 
days.
