1. Pre-Doctoral Research Associate Positions. A New Research Institute in
Gender/Women's Studies at Josai International University in Japan's Chiba
Prefecture invites applications from bilingual scholars currently working
on their dissertations (ABD's only) in the fine arts, humanities, and
social sciences. Applicants should have comparative and multi-disciplinary
training, and near native fluency in both Japanese and English. Preferred
areas of emphasis should include research in gender/sexualities as well as
one or more of the following areas: Critical Legal Studies/Political
Theory, Cultural/Literary Studies, Postcolonial Theory, Queer Theory,
Media Studies, Visual Cultural Studies, and Science Studies.
The initial contract will be for 2 years, with the possibility of
renewal. Scholars are expected to be in residence and will be attached to
the new Research Institute. Until the completion of their dissertation,
academic and service responsibilities include: translation and editorial
work, light undergraduate teaching in their area of specialty as well as
assisting faculty in their graduate classes and in organizing
international conferences. Once Research Associates have completed the
Ph.D., and upon a successful review, the position converts to a
tenure-track assistant professorship. Salary and benefits are competitive.

2. Full-time Administrative Assistant to the President of the University.

Gender/Women's Studies (MA required). We are looking for a rare candidate
who has strong administrative experience and academic training. The
position has two components. Firstly, as an assistant to the president, we
are seeking someone with excellent writing, verbal, and computer skills
(Macintosh, Microsoft Word, Excel, Ergosoft Word, Quark Xpress) as well as
experience working or studying in an international environment. As a
scholar, responsibilities will include simultaneous translation and
editorial work, as well as organizing international conferences and
lecture series.
