VCD and DVD

Sorry, I accidently sent the incomplete message! Here is the complete one:

Todd mentioned the problems with DVD players and a list of Japanese films
on VCD.

I have a Sony DVD-player which plays region 1 and 2 DVD, all HK and korean
VCD's
without any problem. He only refused to play 2-3 HK movies on VCD pirated in
Malaysia which I lent from a friend. But I have a multisystem TV, so I guess,
if you don't, you will have the problems Todd describes.

>I would be very interested in seeing a complete list of all the Japanese film
>released on VCD as most of the websites I've looked at either have a small
>selection or make it difficult to browse just the Japanese titles.

To my knowledge there is no such list. A friend of mine, who has a large
mailorder
here in Germany for asian movies, wrote me, all he gets are the lists with
DVD and VCD
released by the different companies. So you will have to continue searching
the net for
every single japanese film and hope it has subtitles.

Here a list of VCD and DVD with the Japanese films released in HK I know of:

DVD: Paradise Lost and The Eel, both with engl. subtitles

VCD with engl. subt.: Tokyo Biyori (there is also a version without engl.
subt.),
Paradise Lost, The Eel, 119:Quiet Days of Firemen, Fly Boys, Fly (Kimi wo
wasurenai),
Parasite Eve, Swallowtail Butterfly, Highschool Teacher, Sumo Do, Sumo Don't,
Tora-San Makes Excuses, Tokyo Eyes, Sleepless City, Rhapsody in August, The
Jikembo
of Young Kindaichi, Suzaku, Village of Dreams, Picnic, Fireworks, Summer
Vacation 1999,
Focus, Hero Interview, Misty, See You at the Campground

VCD without engl. subt.: Deborah the Rival, The Files of Young Kindaichi
(anime),
Accri, Kappa, I was born but..., Us Two, Drifting Classroom, Sharaku, The Most
Beautiful, Seventh of July, Sunny Day, That's Cunning

I also heard of a DVD-release of the arthouse erotic film "OIRAN", but I
know neither the film nor
if this is really true. Iwai's April Story and March Comes Like a Lion were
also released on VCD,
but I don't know if they have engl. subtitles.

According to Amae, the early Kurosawa films are all without engl.
subtitles. I can recommend Amae.
I am a regular customer and the service is excellent. They will help you
when you ask if a film
has english subtitles.
