             Kyoto Film Culture Award
       The first award in the world to
         honor scholarly research on
                     Japanese cinema


With the aim of encouraging scholarly research
on Japanese cinema, the Kyoto Film Festival has
founded the Kyoto Film Culture Award which
honors the best critical essay contributing to
the development of the study of Japanese
cinema. 

The Kyoto Film Culture Award is the first cash
award in the world for scholarly work on
Japanese cinema. Papers accepted include
academic research, essays, biographies and
autobiographies, whether published or
unpublished.

Contents
The submitted material (monograph, critical
essay, biography, autobiography, etc.) should
deal with Japanese cinema. As a rule, only
unpublished work will be considered, but those
published after Sep 1, 1997 will be
accepted.We also accept recommendations. 

Requirements
The length of the piece is not limited, but it
should be written in Japanese. Handwritten
manuscripts will not be accepted. Please use a
word processor. Authors should submit a brief
summary using less than 2000 Ietters in Japanese. The
name, age, address, and telephone number must
be given. The closing date for application is
May15, 1999.
