I am just about to finish my final thesis on "Genji monogatari" film by
Yoshimura Kôsaburô from 1951 that won a camera prize at Cannes in 1952.
It is a rather unusual jidaigeki with melodramatic elements. Kinugasa shot
a film called "Genji monogatari-Ukifune" (Ukifune is a chapter from the
novel) in 1957, I think. It is a rather static film, in contrast to
Yoshimura´s earlier black and white version. If you have any questions to
the film from 1951 just ask. In two weeks I will meet the director and make
an interview.
