Is there any case of just this happening--a Western film based on a
Japanese novel--apart from Paul Schrader's "Mishima"?

the recent french film "L'Ecole de la chair" by Jacques Benoit (1998) is
an adaption of Mishima Yukio's novel "Nikutai no gakko" transfered to
present Paris.
I don't think, however, that the constellation of the films protagonists
translates very successful, especially not the relation between
Dominique, the female lead, and the male ex-lover of Quentin. To me it
seemed not very convincing.
Did anybody see this film?
