Call for Papers.
Japanese Women Filmmakers

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, University of
Colorado at Boulder, solicits proposals for presentations for an
international colloquium on Japanese Women Filmmakers to be held at the
University of Colorado, September 8-10, 2000. Proposals for organized
panels, individual papers, or poster sessions in all disciplines and areas
of Japanese studies are invited. Graduate student participation is
encouraged, and funds may be available in support of attendance.

Possible topics include but are not limited to:
Classic films (Sakane Tazuko, Tanaka Kinuyo, Hidari Sachiko, etc.);
documentaries by and about women; animation by or concerning women's
issues; recent films by women directors; films by or concerning
Japanese-American women; women in film production (including actresses,
designers, producers, and others); "pink" films; videos, shorts, and
experimental films by women; melodrama; films for television; feminism and
film.

Please send a one-page abstract of the proposed project to:
