Hi Joanne --

I don't check my KineJapan folder all that often, so I missed your note a 
couple of days ago. So, what are you up to (Yale?) and how are things going?

My mom passed away in July (peacefully and without pain -- it was a good 
death as far as cancer deaths go). I'm back in Irvine but still on family 
leave (traveling to Northern California every few weeks). Although I'm not 
teaching I'm kept pretty busy with some search committees (Buddhism, Asian 
Theater) and being busy is good, I think. I still miss my mom a lot, but 
the grieving process is going forward.

Drop me a line when you have a chance -- I'd love to hear from you.
