I'd cop to that in a minute if it weren't for the fact that he gives out
negative reviews with a free hand. He trashed the GUINEA PIG series (which
is on VSOM, BTW), and makes no bones about it being worthless, cheap,
morally reprehensible, etc. So why does he offer it through VSOM? Because
there are always people who are going to be interested in seeing it, and I
suspect he's not one to turn down a buck where it can be made. It's this
sort of duplicity that irritates me as well.
He is also quite biased towards the pinku eiga genre; probably because he
feels it's underrepresented and deserves a wider audience. Maybe. Among
people weaned on American or European trash cinema, sure. Among people who
are looking for the best that movies have to offer in general, that's
doubtful.
