I haven't seen a Japanese film magazine or newspaper for several weeks so
can somebody confirm for me that the following films are coming out in Japan
this weekend: 26 Feb 2000. (I suspect I may have overlooked an earlier
release date for at least one of them. And I'm guessing that "Bullet
Ballet" isn't out for another week.)
KUROSAWA Kiyoshi's "Charisma" (Japan)
OSHIMA Taku's "Mars Sweet Home" (Japan)
SAITO Hisashi's "Sunday Drive" (Japan)
Benny CHAN's "Gen-X Cops" (Hong Kong)
PARK Ki-hyung's "Whispering Corridors" (Korea)
By pure luck I've seen them all, but can somebody with a 1999 Tokyo
International Film Festival catalogue in front of them remind me of the
roles played by SUZUKI Shigeko, CHIWAKI Mayumi and KUSAKA Takeshi in "Mars
Sweet Home" (Kasei no Wagaya). In short, who's the father, elder daughter,
younger daughter and lodger and what are their characters' names? And I'm
assuming only CHARISMA has a website. (I bet nobody on the list envies me
for having to write a synopsis for CHARISMA.)
Incidentally, SAMURAI FICTION has opened really strongly in Korea, coming in
third at the box office over the weekend, behind local wrestling comedy THE
FOUL KING and new entry JOAN OF ARC. And POPPOYA is still holding on very
well at number six in its third week of release, ahead of new US entries
SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS and BABE 2. Makes you wonder what the local
distributors of SONATINE did wrong, which didn't make a blip on the box
office chart when it was released last month.
