Dear fellow members,

I am Stefan Borsos from Germany/Stuttgart, a new member of the KineJapan mailing
list. I am the publisher/chief editor of FULL ALERT (formerly known as BURNING
PARADISE), a magazine which is specialized in asian cinema. Furthermore, I?m
planning to study film in the near future. The japanese director I admire most
is Terayama Shuji, in my opinion one of the greatest artists in cinema, theatre
and literature. Both in his feature-length movies and shorts, Terayama tried
many things with the medium film which nobody did before. So, I think he?s one
of the few filmmakers whose work can really be called "experimental". (By the
way, does anybody know, if Carol Jay Sorgenfrei?s TERAYAMA SH?JI: AVANT GARDE
DRAMATIST OF JAPAN is still available anywhere?) Other japanese directors I like
are for example Tsukamoto Shinya (especially TETSUO, TOKYO FIST and his last but
one effort BULLET BALLET which I enjoyed very much and therefore couldn?t
understand the mostly negative reviews back then), Hayashi Kaizo, Harada Masato,
Obayashi Nobuhiko, Fukasaku Kinji, Kitano Takeshi, Ishii Takashi or Imamura
Shohei. Concerning single movies, some of my favourites of japanese cinema are:
PASTORAL: TO DIE IN THE COUNTRY, HOUSE, WALKER IN THE ATTIC?76, BLACK RAIN,
KAMIKAZE TAXI, KWAIDAN, IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES, DOUBLE SUICIDE, BRANDED TO
KILL, GHOST STORY OF YOTSUYA: CHUSHINGURA VERSION, GOYOKIN, WOMAN OF THE DUNES
and NANAMI-FIRST LOVE.

Currently, I?m doing research on japanese underground cinema. Therefore, I
wanted to ask, if anybody knows the contact of Matsui Yoshihiko, the director of
PIG-CHICKEN-SUICIDE and NOISY REQUIEM and, if these films were released on video
or Laserdisc anywhere.
