Hi everyone,

A film not to be missed at Rotterdam! Because Exploding Cinema is so
huge, Hasei Kohki's "W/O" has missed out in publicity to a lot of other
films in the No Cherry Blossoms program.

A 60 minute experimental documenatary video by an artist who used to
live in the legendary Komaba Dormitory of Tokyo University. Until a few
years ago, the dilapidating buildings from pre-war times were home to a
curious mix of squatters--bums, musicians, artists, alchoholics, and the
odd university student. The film captures the essence of the atmosphere
in this short-lived "global village" or sorts. The squatters are not
political, not very socially responsible, and not unified in any
quasi-60s idealism, but in the film you can feel a rawness and
spontaneity in the residents that is missing in the systemized and
stressful Tokyo clockwork one step outside Komaba. Includes images of
their forced eviction and standoffs with University officials.

My favorite film in a while! but of course some people will disagree.

Showing in Rotterdam on Jan 30 and Feb 5. Say hi to me if you see me on
Feb 5, I'll be there!

PS I did the subtitles.
