Thank you Aaron and Markus.
I went on saturday to Ebisu's museum
(I had been before but hadn't seen the shelf with tapes,
as I went through all the books on sale, of photos of
Japan of the early 20th century, quite interesting to
compare the visions of landscapes or cities between
filmmakers and photographers, indeed.)
But well, they had a copy of Takahiko Iimura's video,
mentioning that an architect had also provided a text.
Actually, this architect also made an exhibition in
Paris and New-York 20 years ago to introduce the notion
of Ma abroad, if I remember well, so I was even more
interested about the tape too and tried to ask the young
lady behind the counter if the text was in english or
in Japanese, or subtitled, as the tape jacket is in
both languages... So she made lengthy phone calls to
find the answer, for which I am quite grateful, but
unfortunately my understanding of japanese remains a
little low and it seems to me she kept explaining that
there was no text in the movie...
I was insistent about that because next to the tapes
was a catalogue of Iimura who had an exhibition in Paris
a few months ago, so probably the tape is available in
Paris, so I'd rather buy it in France at the french
standard (with a text in french if there is any) than
spend \ 6.000 for a tape I can't use in france, and
won't be able to understand either if there is any text.
The next step for me is to contact the artist directly,
of course, and I'm going to do it right now. I just
wanted you to know that I took good notice of your
advices and to thank you for the prompt reply.
yours, antoine kilian
