Dear Chika,
I am a french architect studying space in japanese
cinema and I concentrate mostly on the Jidai-Geki
of Masaki Kobayashi, but of course I can't ignore
the work of the great masters such as Mizoguchi or
Ozu, so I'll be glad to hear more about your
research of domestic space in Mizoguchi's movies.

By the way, do you know that Mark Menish presented
a thesis in the University of Tokyo last year with
the title "Representation of Space in the Films of
Mikio Naruse 1951-1960", you might want to look at it.

My interest in representation of space is also by
comparison with the representation of space in the
paintings and/or litterature, so space is not for
me limited to architectural settings such as the
house but also in a broader meaning such as the
landscape or the cityscape, and I'll be happy if
you or any of the other members of the list want
to suggest me some readings.

Thanks in advance, antoine kilian.

Also my apologies for answering so late to various
mails, but I could not easily get access to the net.
